Lessons from the Book of Mormon as taught by S.J. Hollist, in
“Lesson 20: Korihor, the Anti-Christ,” Primary 4: Book of Mormon, 67Following Jesus Christ can help us avoid being deceived by Satan. Anyone or anything that actively opposes Jesus Christ (either openly or secretly) is an anti-Christ. We will not be deceived if we will keep the commandments, follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, study the scriptures, and follow the living prophet.
Read
Alma 30 and
Moroni 7:15–17.
Korihor told the people were foolish for believing in Christ (
Alma 30:12–16). We can know for ourselves that Jesus Christ lives by gaining a testimony of Jesus Christ.
Korihor said there was no need for the atonement of Jesus Christ because "whatsoever a man did was no crime" (
Alma 30:17). We can’t we overcome sin on our own. Only threw Jesus Christ is it possible for us to overcome our sins.
Alma’s replied by giving his testimony of Christ saying "I know there is a God . . . what evidence have ye that there is no God . . . ye have none, save it be your word only . . . I have . . . a testimony that these things are true . . ." (
Alma 30:39–41).
When Korihor asked Alma for a sign to convince him that there was a God, Alma give him a long list of signs we see every day which testify of a God (
Alma 30:44). What do you see around you every day that helps you know that Heavenly Father exists? What experiences have you had that help you know Heavenly Father lives?
As a sign "Korihor was struck dumb, that he could not have utterance, according to the words of Alma" (
Alma 30:48–50). Korihor then wrote about God and Satan after he was struck dumb: "I know that nothing save it were the power of God could bring this upon me; yea, and I always knew that there was a God. But behold, the devil hath deceived me; for he appeared unto me in the form of an angel" (
Alma 30:52–53).
The "devil will not support his [followers] at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell" (
Alma 30:60). Heavenly Father rewards those who serve him (
Mosiah 2:41).
Are you aware of any influences that oppose the teachings of Jesus Christ? What things do you avoid because you know they are not Christ like?
"and the way to judge is as plain, that ye may know . . . as the daylight is from the dark night. . . every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ . . . ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good" (
Moroni 7:15–17).
